If there is a more pleasing sound than aspen leaves in a breeze, I don't what it is. And for the largest living thing on earth (the groves, to be exact, which can number into the thousands of tree all linked together by a single root system) to have leaves that are so crisp and dainty is, well, paradoxical. With their tall, lanky shape, light bark with black accents and small light green-to-crimson leaves (depending on the season), aspen are among the most graceful and congenial of trees. I have happily lost many an afternoon among members of this tribe.
My western art is full of aspens, in all their seasonal mutations. I love painting them up close as much as I do painting them in distant masses.
